LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR

Saying Goodbye to
The Table

17 Years of Feeding Southside

With a mix of sadness and gratitude, we are announcing the end of The Table. Hot Metal leaders have exhausted the search for partners that could give The Table a new home following our move, and this Thanksgiving was our final community meal. It is our deep hope that in the future we can find new ways that don't require owning a building to support food access in Southside and in Hazelwood, and are so very thankful for the organizations who are able to continue this type of ministry and care for our neighbors who we’ll miss.

We also want to acknowledge that Hot Metal was never alone in providing care through The Table. Congregations, restaurants and nonprofits from around the city contributed time and food to make sure our neighbors were fed, and a band of faithful volunteers were there each week to serve care for every person who walked through the door. Well done, good and faithful servants!

Free Meals by
Living Stones

Thank you to Living Stones for inviting all our Table community to join you! Living Stones serves hot, sit-down meals that offer fellowship, support, prayer, and encouragement. Those served are given more than food. Free haircuts and clothing closet have given neighbors renewed confidence and improved self-esteem, which have led to new jobs and social acceptance. Their underlying desire in all they do is to help without hurting.

Community Resources

Care Closet

Neighbors in need of clothing and other materials can stop by when the building is open and see what’s in stock. Typically before or after Sunday service or The Table are the best times to take look. Donations of new socks and underwear, hygiene products, and winter wear are always useful.

Community Fridge

Neighbors in need of food are welcome to check the fridge anytime. Located outside on our patio, no one has to wait for open hours to have access to food. There are typically leftovers from The Table available, and neighbors with enough to share can stock up anytime. Thank you to Emma Munson Foundation and the Katz School of Business at Pitt for making this possible!

Outdoor Sink

Neighbors in need of access to hand hygiene have 24/4 access to fresh water. Located outside on our patio, this sink gives anyone somewhere to wash their hands. It is a part of the “Love Sinks In” project by Love Beyond Walls. Thank you to Katz Business School at Pitt and Accenture for making this possible

LGBTQIA+ Art Show & Safe Space Award

In 2023, Hot Metal gave the inaugural Sanctuary Award to acknowledge, thank, and share proceeds with a local organization that has stood for the LGBTQIA+ community. The celebration took place amidst an art show displaying pieces that expressed how artists experienced “sanctuary.” As out first-ever honoree, BikePGH was chosen for their work to champion both road safety and communal safety for queer riders.

Better Understanding Those We Love

Allies and good neighbors never stop learning and growing in empathy and action. Here are a few of the books we’ve studied as a community
